Frequently asked questions

Who comes to Meredith Road Baptist Church?

We have a very friendly congregation who come together from a variety of backgrounds and traditions. Whatever your age or background you are very welcome to join in our services and activities.

How many people attend?

Each Sunday morning there are over 100 people including children and young people of all ages.  Each Thursday morning we hold an informal worship service for anyone who can attend and usually there are about 25 to 30 people.

What happens at the worship services?

While there are specific things we do at special times of the year (like Christmas or Easter), all our services tend to include the following:

  • We sing together a variety of songs, from the contemporary to the traditional (led by our music team).
  • We have a time of prayer.
  • We have a short time for church announcements.
  • We hear the Bible read to us, and then it is explained in a talk that lasts about 25 -30 minutes.
  • Every month during the service we share Communion.

After the service, there is the chance to be prayed for in confidence with a member of our Prayer Ministry team or to meet others for refreshments.

Are there groups for children on Sunday mornings?

We encourage children to join with us each Sunday morning in the service at 10.30am for a time of worship for approximately 20-30 minutes before taking part in our Junior Church departments that meet for approximately one hour until 12 noon. We have groups for children and young people according to their school year. All our volunteers working with children have a current DBS certificate and we adhere to an up-to-date child protection policy.

How long are the services?

The 10.30am service on Sunday normally lasts until 12 noon. The Thursday worship at 10.30am stretches to about an hour and fifteen minutes.

Do you have an offering during the service?

Yes. We believe that giving our money to God's work in this Church is an act of worship. If you are not a regular attendee of the church, please don't feel pressured into putting anything into the offering bags.

Will I be asked to do anything during the service?

No, nothing to fear! Whilst a number of people from the congregation play an active role in our services, we want our church to be as safe and as unthreatening a place as possible, so you will never be asked to do anything you do not want to do.

What is the dress code?

The simple answer is, there is no dress code - we want you to feel comfortable, so just come as you are!

Can I park at the church?

We have a church car park and there is usually space if you are here early. However, there are is also some parking on Meredith Road by the side of the church and on surrounding streets.

Do you have provision for the hard of hearing or partially sighted?

It is important to us that everyone feels welcome and that our services and activities are as accessible as possible. To help with this we try to ensure that all our printed literature and projected content use colour schemes and font sizes which are helpful for the partially sighted. Folders with large print words to songs are available on request on Sunday mornings. For the hard of hearing we operate a loop system.

How do I get involved?

There are all sorts of ways to get involved at Meredith Road, whether it is participating in a House Group, or assisting in the various group activities run by the church. If you have an idea of what you would like to do, get in touch with a relevant team member to have a chat about how you can get involved or talk to one of the leadership and they'll point you in the right direction.
